They generally welcome harmonisation steps but strongly warn against narrowing the definition of “personal data” (saying such changes go beyond case law and would weaken data protection)

9 Feb 2026: The European Commission sent Meta (WhatsApp) a Statement of Objections under EU competition law, marking the first AI-Act‑era enforcement. The Commission’s preliminary view is that Meta (via WhatsApp Business) is abusing its dominant position by blocking third‑party AI assistants from accessing WhatsApp. It warned this exclusion “risks blocking competitors” and causing “serious and irreparable harm” to the market for AI assistants . (In practice, the Commission said it will impose urgent interim measures if Meta doesn’t restore access.)
